DESCRIPTION:INTRODUCTION TO PAPERMAKING WITH RECYCLED MATERIALS\n\n\n\n\nwith Lily Massee \nFriday\, Saturday & Sunday\, July 10\, 11 & 12\, 2026 \nTime: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM\nAges: 18+\nMembers: $193.50 / Non-members: $215 \nThis introductory workshop will provide a foundation on which to start your papermaking journey and continue creating at home. Participants will be guided step-by-step through the construction of their own mould and deckle\, and the process of papermaking using recycled paper-based materials. We will begin with the basic skills of making paper\, preparing pulp\, and forming sheets. Building upon this\, we will introduce techniques allowing you to expand your experimentation. You’ll learn about coloring paper\, embossing (creating relief images or designs in paper)\, changing texture through couching on alternative surfaces\, embedding (sandwiching materials between sheets)\, and inclusions (adding small objects\, flowers\, leaves\, glitter\, or colored pieces of paper). By the end of the workshop\, participants will have created a series of handmade papers and have their own mould and deckle to continue using for future papermaking projects at home.

In this workshop\, explore a unique process using satellite photos found online\, creating cyanotype prints of them and combining these with mixed-media materials to develop innovative landscapes on panel. Instructor\, Susan Hoffman Fishman\, applies these techniques in her own work\, recently exhibited in Five Points Gallery (March 27 – May 2\, 2026). \nA working knowledge of cyanotype printing is helpful\, but not required.

Combining the immediacy of painting with the reproducibility of printmaking\, this technique offers an exciting expansion of traditional monoprint practices. Participants will create images by painting directly onto plexiglass using printmaking inks. Unlike traditional monoprint or monotype methods—where a single strong impression is followed by a faint “ghost” print—this offset process allows for consistent image transfer through a registration system that enables the plate and paper to move in and out of the press with precision. As a result\, artists can produce a series or a small edition of closely related prints.
