DIVERSITY - SPEED INSIDE | EAST GALLERY
MARCH 30 - MAY 6, 2017
These moments I’ve captured are the in-between subterranean spaces, the incessant flow of fates passing from here to there. When I step into a New York subway car, I am reminded of how this multinational gathering of people join together in speed and equality down here more than most places.
I make everything larger than life so you can’t help but be sucked right in … and when you find your vantage point, you’ve found your seat.
I file and recall memories in terms of color. It’s one of my main modes of taking in my surroundings, and this box-like aquarium world - this transit space and its reflections - is alive in swaths of color that burst and mutate as powerfully as anywhere else.
These people haunt my giant, blurred-out cars and I love them and learn about them more and more as I paint them. They stand for beauty, equality and diversity.
