Celebrate creativity & community shaping our democracy! A movement choir performance, art-making, and more! – Rescheduled from July 5
Of the People, By the People, For the People is a communal movement project led by choreographer/director Paula Josa-Jones. The project’s intention is to evoke the spirit of regeneration and community in this celebratory marking of our 250th anniversary as a nation. All activities will be held outdoors on the campus of Five Points Art Center.
Paula Josa-Jones is a dance artist, choreographer, movement educator and therapist known for her visually rich, emotionally charged dance theater. Her work includes choreography for humans; inter-species work with horses, dancers and riders; film, and video. One of her local projects was RiverBody, performed in 2018 in the Housatonic River in Kent, CT. Paula’s solo, Darker, is posted on the Art Rejects Tyranny website, and more of Paula’s work can be explored at paulajosajones.org. Paula’s collaborators in developing this project include Jill Drew and Patricia Oris.
In addition to the movement choir, there will be an art-making station, as well as a food truck and music.
If weather requires, the performance and festivities will move indoors.

Varoujan Froundjian, “V”, was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1952, and is of Armenian ancestry. Varoujan states, “Becoming a permanent citizen of the USA, provided me with an abundance of opportunities to view, study, be inspired and create art without any restrictions or limitations to a particular dogma, genre or style.”
Foundjian creates art in various mediums and methodologies. He began as a digital artist creating images using various software such as Adobe Photoshop, or Procreate, a drawing and animation app for iPad. More recently, thanks to positive feedback and encouragement received at the Five Points Arts Center, he began to paint. He now shifts effortlessly between painting and creating digital abstract films and stills.
The letters Connecticut couple Nathan and Lois Peters wrote to each other during the Revolutionary War form the basis of this production.
Write Me at Every Opportunity is a stage adaptation based on American Revolutionary War correspondence (1775-1777) between husband and wife Nathan and Lois Peters from Preston, Connecticut. The phrase “Write Me at Every Opportunity” appears frequently in the couple’s letters during this time period. Short quotes from these letters were used in the recent Ken Burns American Revolution documentary!
Commissioned by the Preston Historical Society, this production will be performed by Pocket Productions, a new nonprofit theater group based in Torrington. John Long of Preston and formerly of Torrington, adapted the correspondence for the stage.
The letters are in the collection of the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History, which has generously granted the Preston Historical Society access to use the letters.
