THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD | EAST GALLERY
JULY 11 - AUGUST 10, 2019
The exhibition title, The Weight of the World, serves as an examination of the space that painting operates in between the world of politics, social/global unrest and environmental disasters. The studio—my channel-outlet, voice, and incantation—has given rise to a body of work as response to the jarring interruptions these events have on my studio practice. Paintings on paper, stretched canvas, hardware store drop-cloths, and found and re-appropriated sculptures, present an opportunity to push paint as intuitive, insistent, and urgent marks or tangled and constructed labyrinths. The small sculptures elicit squeamish amusement. In total, all operate to ask questions, but provide no reassuring answers.
