My paintings are an introspective delve into the beautiful complexities of nature. I paint to recreate the feelings of awe and inner peace I find in the natural world. My new exploration of water has inspired some abstraction within my work. I begin with an image of reflections on water and find stories or objects within the image. I’ve become fascinated by the distortions within reflections formed by the water’s surface. This introduces interest and the feeling of wonder and exploration allowing the viewer to become involved in the meaning within. I am intrigued by the way that, based on one’s own personal experiences and history, each person who views a painting sees something different within the abstractions.
I use thin layers of transparent color and line combined with blending to create depth and interest. My use of complementary color adds movement and helps aid in forming composition. Beginning with a representational approach, I sometimes dive deeper by creating abstractions within the work.
