ANTHOTYPE WORKSHOP: FORAGE AND PRINT

May 6 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Instructor: Anne Eder

Date: Saturday, May 6, 2023

Time: 10 AM – 4 PM

Member: $ 198.00

Non – Member: $ 220.00

The medium of photography is not generally environmentally friendly, but in this workshop, participants will explore the wonderful and less toxic world of plant-based printing! Anthotypes are a nineteenth century process first explored by Sir John Herschel, who also gave us cyanotypes and the word “photography”. There is not much that is more romantic or intriguing than using the natural light sensitivity of plants to create prints and seeing your images emerge from an emulsion of fragrant rose petals or nutritious chard!

The class will meet for a short presentation and create digital transparencies for the anthotype process. Participants will forage material from the many beautiful acres surrounding Five Points, then come back and make plant sensitizers by extracting juice from the plants and coating papers. These take long exposures, so anthotypes will be exposed and completed at home. Participants will meet the following week over zoom to discuss the results.
