Artist Statement
“Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life.”
― Rachel Carson
As I move through the world, I make images that are compelling physically and spiritually to express my interpretation of the natural environment. Using my iPhone, I am attracted to a momentary reflection, a shaft of light, a newly budding plant. I see beauty in natural light and formal compositions. I respond intuitively without concern of artistic movements or political messages beyond the respect and love of nature and light.
La Salette Park was owned between 1912-1956 by La Salette Missionaries for the Novitiate House, a place novice seminarians lived, worked, farmed, and studied the holy scriptures to prepare for their future lives as missionaries. “A State of Being” are images created over a year’s time imagining what the seminarians visual experience of the location may have been.
