Alibaba Awrang – Master Caligrapher
There will be an opening reception, March 2, 2024, from 4 PM – 6 PM at the Five Points Annex Gallery, 15 Water Street, Torrington, CT 06790. Recently relocated Islamic calligraphic artist Alibaba Awrang’s paintings masterfully fuse line and color through Persian calligraphy and visual depictions of poetry. At the pinnacle of his career, Awrang and his family evacuated from Kabul, Afghanistan in August 2021, and re-settled in the United States, in Connecticut, with the assistance of the United States government and local refugee resettlement organizations and community sponsors. He is now establishing himself as an artist in Connecticut and seeking permanent asylum from the US government.
